Let’s be honest: paying $500+ on StockX for a pair of sneakers that dropped back in 2016 is tough to swallow. So when I spotted a 10-year-old pair of Nike Air Foamposite One “Wu-Tang” (Style: 314996-701) on eBay for a dirt-cheap $80, I couldn’t resist. Sure, buying someone else’s decade-old footwear meant signing up for some serious labor, but saving $420 builds character, right?
They arrived in full Optic Yellow glory—complete with years of grime, scuffs, and tired soles. It was time to put in the work.
The $80 Restoration Playbook:
- Restoring the Shell: The bright yellow uppers were covered in grime and scuffs. I gave them a deep clean using Reshoeven8r Shoe Cleaning Solution, then carefully buffed out a nasty scuff in the finish with a damp Magic Eraser.
- Scrubbing the Soles: To tackle the dirty soles, I went old school: a heavy scrub with Dawn Powerwash Free & Clear and a stiff-bristle brush, followed by another pass with the Magic Eraser to get the translucent rubber looking crisp again.
The Verdict: Did I spend two hours smelling like dish soap while questioning my life choices? Absolutely. But for $80 total, these Killa Bees are officially back in rotation, and my wallet is intact.
