SNKRS hit me with the familiar “Didn’t Get ‘Em” on the Air Bakin OG launch. Another release morning, another L.
Then I saw a Foot Locker charge hit my debit card.
Best notification of the week.
I hit. The Nike Air Bakin OG (IQ5365-600) in Varsity Red, Varsity Maize, Black, and White is officially headed to my collection.
A Shoe With a Story
The Air Bakin debuted in 1997, designed by Nike legend Eric Avar and first laced up on court by the Miami Heat’s Tim Hardaway. The ribbed, high-cut upper, plus Max Air in the heel and extra Air up front, looked like nothing else on the hardwood.
It also didn’t last. The original flame-style “Air” heel logo drew backlash for resembling Arabic script for “Allah,” and Nike pulled roughly 38,000 pairs. Retros swap in standard Nike Air branding, so this return keeps the classic look without the controversy.
Sweet Redemption
Retail is $170. No aftermarket math, no talking myself into a bid. Just a W after an L.
