Mail Call: That’s NOT All, Folks! Unboxing the 30th Anniversary Jordan 9 Space Jam

First thing out of the box: a Tune Squad card. Not a shoe, not tissue paper — a Tune Squad card. Jordan Brand knew exactly what they were doing, front-loading the nostalgia before you even get to the good part.

Flip the lid, and the interior artwork does the rest of the talking — an empty gym, that iconic Jumpman silhouette mid-flight, and a callout marking 30 years since Space Jam first hit theaters. The box itself spells it out: in 1996, the film brought together two icons, and the AJ9 and AJ11 — both featured on screen — became legends in their own right. Reading that while holding the box is a genuinely good touch. Whoever’s handling packaging at Jordan Brand deserves a raise.

Peel back the tissue paper, and there it is — white uppers, white soles, black and red accents. Prime Chicago Bulls, straight through. No Space Jam blue gimmick, no cartoon-colored curveball. Just the exact color story that made MJ untouchable in the first place, which honestly might be the smartest way to honor the movie — let the shoe look like it belongs on the actual ’96 roster.

Pull them out of the box side by side, and the detail work really shows — that signature elephant print texture on the toe box, the visible stitching, the red Jumpman planted right on the outsole where you can’t miss it.

Quick sizing note: went a half size up, and they fit great. The 9 runs a little snug, so if you’re on the fence, size up.

Standing the pair up on the box for one last look before they go in the rotation, and yeah — thirty years later, this one still does exactly what it’s supposed to do.
